Jean-Michel Tanguy
(Professor at the Mannheim Conservatory of Music / Mannheim, Germany)
Jean-Michel Tanguy was born in a family of French diplomats and resided in France, Germany, and Africa.
Thus Jean-Michel Tanguy was influenced by diverse cultures in his playing. In 1960, he met Jean-Pierre Rampal who chose him among the pupils of the flute class of the international academy of Nice and invited him to attend his courses in Paris.
In 1964, he entered the Staatliche Hochschule für musik of Berlin the class of Aurèle Nicolet and followed him to Staatliche Hochschule für musik of Freiburg in Brisgau where he graduated.
In 1973 he was the prize winner of the Geneva International Competition for musical interpretation. He was the flutist of such orchestras as Beethoven Halle of Bonn, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rotterdam and the National Orchestra of Belgium. While he was playing in the orchestra, he continued his career as soloist. He has been frequently asked to perform in major cities in Europe, USA and Asia.
Diapason Magazine wrote, "Jean-Michel Tanguy affirms himself already like the worthy successor of Aurèle Nicolet of who he inherited the cordial beauty the colour and the refined style" about his recording.
In 1994 and 1998 he was a member of jury for Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition.
He is currently the professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik of Heidelberg-Mannheim and at the Brussels Royal Conservatoire. Highly demanded for his teaching in many different countries, he has travelled around the world to give masterclass.
