FAQ: FALL Flute Masterclass

Students:

Who is this class for?
The FALL Consummate Flutist is geared towards juniors and seniors in HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE who are hoping to audition for undergraduate and graduate college music programs.  This class also has valuable information for flute teachers and parents as well!

I will not be applying to Carnegie Mellon, can I still come to this class?
Absolutely!  There are many wonderful institutions all across the country and overseas!  This class is for students applying to ANY music school.

I am not sure I want to play in the class, can I attend without having to perform in a master class?
Yes!  This weekend is full of lectures and classes, the master class portion is only one aspect of the weekend.  You will have A LOT to do and learn without performing in the master class.  But you will still need to bring your flute!  There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to participate!

If I am accepted to perform in the master class what should I prepare?
Students performing in the master class portion of the class will need to prepare the same material needed for a college audition.  The recommended repertoire is: first movement of a Mozart Concerto, one excerpt and a solo of your choice.
Students will perform in 2 masterclasses (one for Professor Almarza and one for Professor Park) in addition, all performers will perform one excerpt in the Orchestral Excerpt Workshop with Jeanne Baxtresser.

I missed the deadline to perform in the master class!  What can I do?
The final deadline is SEPTEMBER 25.  If you have missed this deadline, please email info@cmufluteforum.com.

I was not accepted to perform in the master class, should I still come to the class?
YES!  The master class is only one aspect of the weekend.  There is a lot to learn about the process of auditioning; making a recording, stage presence, applications, and more.  We hope all students will attend.

Can I have a private lesson with Jeanne Baxtresser, Alberto Almarza or Soo-Kyung Park during the weekend?
Because the schedule is packed full of classes and activities, there is no time during the weekend for extra lessons.  If you are interested in a lesson with Professor Almarza or Park, please contact the individual teachers to discuss their availability.

I still have more questions, who should I contact?
